I may have mentioned this before, but my favorite holiday tradition that I literally just celebrate with myself – most of the time – is listening to the album December by the Moody Blues nearly everyday throughout December (and sometimes part of January). I’m not going to link to every song or leave a long review, but I do want to point out a couple of things:
- I love this album because it is so different from most Christmas albums;
- I have a few favorites from the album that I want to share.
What are those favorites? Here’s a list for you to research at your leisure. It’s the holiday season, so I wanted to create a stripped-down article that encourages you to relax and explore things on your own time:
- “Don’t Need a Reindeer”
- “December Snow” – SO HAUNTING!
- “Yes I Believe”
- “In the Quiet of Christmas Morning”
- “A Winter’s Tale”
These songs are in no particular order because they are all wonderful. If you want something more secular, go with “December Snow” or “A Winter’s Tale,” which are basically melancholy, contemplative breakup songs, and choose “Don’t Need a Reindeer” if you like a traditional yet not super-religious Christmas jingle with a dash of romance. But that’s all I’m sharing – you’ll have to do the rest of the research yourself!
