The Best Music-Themed Movies: Part 1

This is the beginning of a new series about my top ten favorites in a variety of music-related categories. To start, here are five of my top ten music-themed movies of all time.

I’ve linked to a favorite scene or song from each film. Enjoy!

1. Music & Lyrics

Music & Lyrics is a wonderful little rom-com that humorously reflects on larger issues, such as the pressures that come with being a “has-been” pop star and letting your past control your future.

2. Begin Again

Begin Again takes a look at the gritty side of the music industry in a way few movies do. It also makes important points about family, love and not selling out for your dreams.

3. That Thing You Do!

That Thing You Do! is another funny music film that touches on serious topics, especially the personal trials and tribulations that go along with sudden fame.

3. Moulin Rouge!

If you like over-the-top, flashy musicals, Moulin Rouge! is for you. It’s also a great choice for hopeless romantics. It’s unique take on many popular songs should also be appreciated.

4. Rock Dog

If you’re looking for kid-friendly musical fare, Rock Dog is your best bet. If nothing else, please check out it’s theme “Glorious.”

5. Oklahoma!

I count the Hugh Jackman stage version among my favorite musical movies, since it is available to own. The original film is also a great choice. It’s the musical genius of Rodgers & Hammerstein that truly makes this story shine.

Disagree with my choices? Have a better film to include? Let me know in the comments and I will take a look. 🙂
