Erica Knox, “Make Me Happy”: Review

I knew when I heard the opening notes of Erica Knox’s new single “Make Me Happy” that this was going to be a song with a permanent spot on my playlists.

The song, written by Knox and produced by Tal Vaisman of Kadeema, is a serious yet uplifting anthem about realizing that you are the only one who can truly make you happy in life. “This song came from looking to others to make me happy, and realizing that I am the only person who is capable of that,” Knox has said of the track.

As Knox also points out, “‘Make Me Happy’ is a reminder to love yourself first, and if others want to love you too, communication and openness will serve as a saviour.”

Knox has an intelligent and emotional lyricism that reminds me of Julia Michaels—her voice does a bit, too—but her sound and vocals are clear, clean, and resounding in a way that is uniquely her own and totally fresh.

If you are looking for a place of self-empowerment inside yourself, or simply want a new modern pop anthem that raises your spirits while helping you think about an important topic, “Make Me Happy” is the song for you.
