Spotlight and Review: “4th of July” by Kristian Montgomery and the Winterkill Band

Kristian Montgomery and the Winterkill Band are currently finishing their fourth album with producer Andrew Koss, known for his work with Alicia Keys and John Legend. The album, titled Lower County Outlaw, is set to release on January 1st, 2023.

Kristian Montgomery has been nominated for two Boston Music Awards as well as a New England Music Award and the Amsterdam Artist of the Year Award—all after recording his first three albums in a mere two years. Montgomery has an interesting history that ranges from writing an album in jail to deciding that his father’s native Denmark is a place to call home after feeling out-of-place in Boston. You will find that a number of Montgomery’s tracks feel quite familiar for listeners that know what it’s like not to fit in with your surroundings, which is definitely the type of music we go for here at MTME.

The Winterkill Band’s latest single, “4th of July,” continues the tradition of down-to-Earth country-rock that Kristian Montgomery and his band are known and appreciated for. It has a beautiful and soothing rhythm with the perfect mix of guitar and emotional-filled vocals that appeals to classic rock fans and modern music enthusiasts all at the same time. It’s honest, it’s pure, and yet it’s a technically perfect rock track.

Readers may remember from our earlier review that Kristian Montgomery is on a mission to restore Rock N’ Roll to its purpose with a blue-collar sensibility that is often missing from modern music.

If you are looking for something new yet classic in your next country-rock discovery, give “4th of July” a listen. You just might start to believe in rock music again.
